DIRECTOR
JONATHAN GARY, Conservatory Director
Jonathan M. Gary began piano study at age twelve in Guadeloupe, French West Indies. He received the Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Ouachita Baptist University. He then studied for two years at Stanislaw Moniuski Academy of Music in Gdansk, Poland. Mr. Gary completed the Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at Baylor University's School of Music where he was a student of Professor Jane Abbott-Kirk. While at Baylor University Mr. Gary held a full graduate teaching assistantship and was awarded the Music Teachers National Association STAR Award for recognition in teaching and exemplifying high leadership skills.
Mr. Gary has performed as a soloist and accompanist in Guadeloupe, Poland, Germany, France, and the United States. Also an active adjudicator, he has judged for the Austin Music Teachers' Association, Dallas Music Teachers' Association, Waco Music Teachers' Association, Waco Baptist Association Hymn Festival, Longview Music Teachers' Association, Central Texas Music Teachers' Association, and various National Piano Guild Audition sites in Texas. For six years he served as Competition Coordinator (for Waco Hall) for the Baylor/Waco Piano Competition in Waco, Texas. Mr. Gary was invited by the l'Alliance des Arts and the French Minister of Culture to chair the jury panel at the 2002 Inter-Caribbean Piano Festival and Competition which was held in Point-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe.
Mr. Gary currently holds the position of Director of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Conservatory of Music. From 2000 to 2004 he served as the Assistant Director of the Conservator teaching studio piano, Kindermusik, and serving as "Lead Teacher" in piano. In addition, he taught for six years as an adjunct professor in French for the UMHB Department of Modern Foreign Languages. Before coming to UMHB Mr. Gary served as the Director of the EOAC Waco Charter School After-School Program and Arts Institute in Waco, Texas.
Jonathan M. Gary is an active member of the Central Texas and Texas Music Teachers' Associations, National Guild of Piano Teachers, and is a licensed Kindermusik Educator. He has served on the Executive Board as Director of Operations for Christian Cultural Awareness and Assistance League. Mr. Gary has served as Hymn Festival Chair, Sonatina/Sonata Chair, secretary, and president for the Central Texas Music Teachers' Association. He has served Texas Music Teachers' Association on the Board of Directors (2007-2009) and as Convention Chair (2008-2009) for the State Convention. Currently, Mr. Gary is organist at Meadow Oaks Baptist Church in Temple, Texas.
